Interest Surveys — Privacy Policy

This application matches students in certain UCI courses with the course-content track that best fits their interests. It is operated by the course faculty as part of an NSF-funded research project (RITEL).

What we collect

We do not collect grades, student records, passwords, or any information beyond the above. If you use voice input, speech is transcribed on your own device; audio is never sent to us or stored.

How it is used

Your responses are used to suggest a course-content track, to route your course materials to the track you finally choose, and — in aggregate, without identifying you — to evaluate and improve the survey itself as part of the research project.

Where it lives

Your data is stored encrypted in the project's Amazon Web Services account, accessible only to course faculty, and is retained for the duration of your course and the research project. Conversations with the AI interviewer are processed by Anthropic's Claude model via Amazon Bedrock; under Anthropic's policy for this model, those prompts and outputs are additionally retained by Anthropic for up to 30 days for trust-and-safety review, then deleted. Your data is never sold or used for advertising.
